Links & Love for Some Local Ladies

After switching the format of Nourishing Foodways earlier this year, all of the links from my wordpress.com site weren’t  imported! So this week I’ve finally prioritized getting a new and improved useful links page up and running. Click here to check it out!

The page has several different categories: Gluten-Free Living; Culturing and Fermentation Resources; Blogs I Read, and Life in Portland, Oregon. There are awesome sites in each of these categories, but I want to point out the sites of 4 amazing, local women that I’m honored to know. They’re all based here in Portland, yet their work touches people around the world!

First, Diane Morgan of Diane Morgan Cooks, is the author of numerous cookbooks and my local food-writing teacher. She’s an amazing mentor, and I seriously wouldn’t be here, writing to you, without her! Diane’s recipes are always beautiful – to read, to cook, and to serve. She combines flavors in such unique and delightful ways that I nearly always include 1-2 of her recipes in my weekly menu. Look for her beautiful new book Roots: The Definitive Compendium with more than 225 Recipes Links & Love for Some Local Ladies  this fall (or available for early order on Amazon Links & Love for Some Local Ladies ).

Next, Durga Fuller, of The Cook Awakening has an amazing gift to recognize how our relationships to food impact our lives. Her blog posts are always a quiet, timely reminder that I’m not alone in my struggles with food-sensitivities and long-term health issues. Her unique take on the emotional helps make real and lasting improvement in our relationships to food. Give Durga a call when you’re ready to do the work – she’ll be ready to help!

Third, Joy Ceilidh of The Liberated Kitchen, is passionate about alternative health and understands the dilemmas of raising children with food allergies. She blogs about food allergies and sensitivities, the G.A.P.S. diet, and the S.C.D. diet. She’s an amazing resource for making sense of it all! Joy also operates Healing Landscapes, a landscaping design, maintenance, and consulting firm. She’s passionate about teaching folks to grow their own food. Plus, she incorporates Permaculture principles into everything she does! If you are having trouble navigating G.A.P.S. or S.C.D., or want to learn to grow food that supports you, Joy can help!

Finally, Dr. JJ Pursell, ND, LAc of The Herb Shoppe, on Hawthorne Street in Portland (and also in Brooklyn, New York) is a Naturopath, Accupuncturist, and amazing entrepreneur. She blogs about natural health and herbal medicine at Dr. JJ Pursell. On her blog you will find information about Herb Shoppe events, reliable recipes for homemade herbal products, and cutting-edge natural-health advice. The Herb Shoppe is a community resource that offers free classes, herbal certification courses, and – most importantly – accessible, inexpensive, natural healthcare. Those of you in Portland and New York can visit The Herb Shoppe in-person, but they ship around the country, so take a look at the website and give my friends at The Shoppe a call!

Take a moment to check out the work of these talented, open-hearted women. Click here to see the entire list of Useful Links.
